How to Succeed in your Math classes and exams?
There is no magic bullet to solve your math dilemma; in order to succeed in math,
you need to follow a few commonsense tips.
But first, I will briefly tell you what not to do.
Last year, I had a student walk into the tutoring session 10 minutes late and he had a broken pencil with
no eraser, a piece of paper that looked like his dog ate it the night before but decided to throw up in
the morning, and a cell phone with a tiny cracked window. Then the student proceeds to access his homework
through his cell phone and asks me to look at it through a cracked window and solve the problem for him while
he entered the answers through the cell phone. Oh, and he had to leave 15 minutes early to take his grandpa
to the airport. Just kidding, but you get the point; please come prepared to your tutoring session.
Every year, I get a number of students or parents (students’ parents) that call and tell me that the
student is confused and failing his/her math class, not interested in learning math, hate it but just
have to pass the exams and get it over with; and then the above individual proceeds to explain to me
how he/she would like me to tutor the student.
I am not kidding, this is true; some of you are probably recognize yourselves in one of the above scenarios.
If you want to succeed in Math please do the following:
- Have a Positive attitude and be flexible
- Organize, take notes and manage your time
- Consistently work hard to complete your homework on time
- Get help soon and don’t wait until you are totally lost
- Show up and keep up with your class or online curriculum
- Review, Review, Review for quizzes, tests and exams
- Never, ever give-up on yourself
You can still succeed if you miss one or more of the above tips, but it will cause you some pain
and more in tutoring fee.
